My lifelong passion and commitment to the game of golf has all led me to becoming a specialized putting coach. The satisfaction of helping someone accomplish their dreams as a coach is the greatest feeling I’ve experienced in my career.
During my time with players I will explore the psychology behind great putting, and the ability to make putts that matter. One must also have a tour proven foundation of great fundamentals, a purposeful use of the putter as it was intended and the discovery of a putting and putter style that is uniquely suited to them. All of this culminates on the green where the need to be a great green reader is vital and the ability to harness creative visuals and unlocked potential as an athlete under pressure are the keys to lasting confidence. Every player is unique so the practice plan and putting games needed to keep each golfer engaged and improving is something that requires a coach who is both highly competent and deeply caring. I look forward to being your biggest supporter on your
path to success.
In 2013 I accepted the role of Senior Putter Fitting Analyst for Scotty Cameron putters. I was blessed to spend many years learning about the art of putters from master craftsman Scotty Cameron. The artistry and detail that went into every putter was also the key ingredient in everything he designed and created. The Scotty Cameron pursuit of artistry and finely crafted ingenuity became engrained in me as a professional. My fit with the brand was the culmination of all the insights and influences I had acquired throughout my career. A large part of my role featured extensive learning from R&D director Paul Vizanko who has worked with and guided thousands of golfers through the Putter Studio. His expertise and knowledge has played a hand in many major victories and shaped the careers of many players and coaches who have had the opportunity to learn from him. I’m honored to call him a friend and mentor.
From 2008 to 2013 I managed and operated independent motion capture swing analysis systems in Vista, Ca as well as the first of its kind in Shanghai China. I worked with thousands of players as a swing coach, fitting expert and custom club builder. During this time I had the extreme fortune of learning from golf coach legend Jim Flick. He often visited the facility where I worked and would stop by to watch me conduct 3D swing sessions. He was always in a state of learning, curious to see what the new golf technology had to offer, but his interpretations of what he saw transformed the way I worked with players. He inspired me to see the art behind the science, to find the feel behind the numbers. That led me to dive deeper into my passion for putters and putting. In a small putting lab and build room I began to study the performance and popularity of Scotty Cameron putters.
In 2004 I accepted a job as one of the first professionals to conduct fittings using 3D motion capture swing analysis. The success of this highly innovative system and detailed fitting technologies from Taylormade paved the way for a newly integrated art of combining teaching and club fitting services into one comprehensive session.
While attending San Diego State I worked part time at the premier local practice facility Stadium Golf Center. It was here where I learned the craft of building and fitting from Brad Hardan, a brilliant fitter and talented builder. The facility featured a handful of Top 100 golf instructors and great players along with GM Monty Leong who has served as a lifelong mentor, friend and father figure throughout my 25 years in southern California.
It was at Stadium Golf Center where I first met world renowned coach Derek Uyeda. Derek has remained a friend and inspiration for the past 20 years. Studying and assisting him as a protege is something I envision growing into a tremendous partnership.
Many of the early lessons I learned came from helping others as a caddie at Cypress Point Golf Club in Pebble Beach. Head pro Jim Langley knew that I aspired to be a great player someday and would volunteer lessons from time to time. His professionalism, charm and humility shaped much of who I am today as a career serving others became my ultimate path. It was on the greens of Cypress Point, Augusta designer Alister MacKenzie‘s severely undulated greens that I learned to be creative and artistic as a green reader.
Some of my most fond memories were meeting fellow caddies at night to have putting competitions in the dark at the Del Monte GC practice green. Half the green stayed lit and the other half was dark. We would put glow sticks inside the cups and putt for hours wagering until someone had enough. I always enjoyed a pressure putt from those days on.
